The first thing you hear when you press play on Spiral, the new single from Tommy Lunaire, is the sound of footsteps.
These steps were recorded during a walk that the artist took with the one who he was sharing his life with at the time. A recording made
spontaneously, with no real purpose other than to capture a moment of happiness and lightness.
But what was the soundtrack of a summer walk quickly took on a new depth and became the basis of an entire piece. This seemingly
innocuous field recording is indeed the cornerstone of Spiral, giving it not only its rhythm but also a certain nostalgic quality.
The result is a bittersweet piece in which emotions collide. The footsteps, so present and reassuring at the beginning, end up moving away
and fading away in the rest of the instrumentation, the celebration rubs shoulders with the mourning, the limit between love and pain is
blurred, the sonorities are as dancing and festive as raw.
In short, we find a Tommy Lunaire in full expansion of his universe, combining the enveloping electro that he had already established on his first EP, Until I Melt, released in 2021. With new pop inspirations assumed and with the sublime voice of Rau Ze.
