about

A recurring feature of Tommy Lunaire's universe is the integration of recordings and sound samples that evoke memories and precious moments, captured on his phone or portable microphone. This new single is no exception. This time we find ourselves in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Santa Marta, Colombia.

What motivated the artist to explore Colombia's Caribbean coast was its rich musical culture: this region is the birthplace of Cumbia and Vallenato. So this work represents a subtle adaptation of this traditional rhythm, interpreted through the eyes and experience of an amazed visitor. This melody prefigures all the possibilities open to us when we let ourselves be carried by the land that welcomes us and by the teachings of the universe.

Travelling with a portable studio, Tommy composed this song in the middle of nature, first in a small village called Minca. It was there that he met Jwikamey and his brothers, members of the Arhuacos community, an indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada. They invited him to live with them for a while as part of a cultural exchange and to help build a cabaña a few hours' drive inland. It was here that the bonds of friendship were forged, and where Tommy recorded the sounds of nature, as well as the words of welcome from Félipe, their little brother, who expresses himself enthusiastically in his mother tongue.

This instrumental music is full of wonder, new friendships, sharing, kindness and respect for nature and the beings it shelters.

It is dedicated to the Arhuacos, the guardians of the heart of the world.
